Junglia Okinawa: Japan’s Newly Opened Nature-Immersive Theme Park【Access & Attractions】

New

What Is “Junglia Okinawa”?

Opening on July 25, Junglia Okinawa is a brand-new theme park located in northern Okinawa. Its concept is “Power Vacance!!”—a coined phrase mixing “power” and “vacance” (the French word for vacation). The park promises something beyond conventional theme parks, combining elements of wild nature, excitement, spectacular scenery, and luxury.

Built across the villages of Nakijin and Nago, the project is expected not only to attract tourists but also to boost the local economy. Many in Japan have already noticed the eye-catching TV commercials promoting the park, sparking high expectations.

Getting There: Access & Practical Tips

Junglia Okinawa is about a 2 hour 20 minute bus ride from Naha Airport on the dedicated Junglia Express (one way: ¥2,500 / about $17). However, the bus schedule can be inconvenient—the earliest service from the airport departs at 10:10 a.m., meaning you won’t arrive until 12:20 p.m. The last return bus leaves at 5:30 p.m., so day-trippers will only get about five hours inside the park.

For flexibility, rental cars are the best option. The drive from Naha takes about 90 minutes via expressway. Rental cars in Okinawa are relatively cheap due to strong competition, but travelers should double-check the pickup location: some “airport” branches are actually a 30-minute shuttle ride away.

Expect extra costs of about ¥4,000–5,000 ($25–35) for tolls, parking (¥2,000), and gas. The official parking lot holds 1,126 cars, plus 800 additional spaces outside the park (reservations required). As a budget-friendly alternative, visitors can park at the rooftop lot of Aeon Mall Nago, a partner facility, and take a free shuttle bus to the park.

Must-Try Attractions

The park features 22 attractions, including shows, most of which were previewed by the media. Here are some highlights:

  • Dinosaur Safari
The signature ride of Junglia Okinawa. Guests board rugged off-road vehicles as “team members” and journey through subtropical jungle landscapes where 18 life-sized dinosaurs suddenly appear. The immersive storytelling makes it a must-see for dinosaur lovers (17 min). Suitable for ages 4+ (under 10 must be accompanied by an adult).
  • Finding Dinosaurs
A gentler, family-friendly attraction where visitors help search for lost baby dinosaurs such as Stegosaurus and Triceratops. With six adorable animatronic baby dinos, it’s equally fun for adults and children (14 min).
  • Horizon Balloon
A giant 23-meter hot-air balloon offering 360-degree panoramic views of Okinawa’s natural beauty. What makes it special: inside the balloon, guests can toast with sparkling wine (¥1,200 per bottle, alcohol or non-alcohol). It’s a unique blend of luxury and adventure.
  • Tam Tam Tram
Not just a shuttle—this tram turns into a “music train.” Each seat is equipped with instruments, and riders create rhythms together under the guide’s direction. It doubles as a fun way to see the park and shake off shyness.

Other popular options include Buggy Voltage, where visitors speed through off-road trails, and the Jungle Extreme Area, where thrill-seekers can leap into nature itself (height and weight restrictions apply; sneakers required).

Travel Tips for Okinawa Heat

The Okinawan sun is strong—bring hats, sunglasses, towels, and plenty of drinks. Handy fans and cooling neck wraps are useful, and UV-cut umbrellas are especially effective (the park also rents umbrellas for free). There are vending machines and water refill spots throughout the park.

Since weather in Okinawa changes quickly and sudden showers are common, lightweight rain ponchos are the best option—easily purchased at convenience stores before your visit.
